Spoons

Performance to Camera

Leeds

Pierce methodically washes and dries silver spoons, placing each one down with deliberate care. Between each cycle, they pause to wash their own face, symbolising the internal masking, struggle, and self-soothing routines often experienced by neurodivergent individuals. The repetitive actions speak to the exertion of mental and physical energy, reflecting the relentless nature of coping mechanisms. The work was first explored in August 2023 at the Centre for Live Art Yorkshire in Leeds as part of OTHER, supported by Unlimited Micro Commissions. The OTHER collective is composed of individuals living and working at the intersection of being queer, neurodivergent, disabled, and survivors. Their creative practice is deeply informed by their marginalised identities and lived experiences, making safe, supportive, and caring environments essential for initiating, developing, performing, touring, documenting, exhibiting, and sharing their work.
